Disenroll Medicare Advantage Plan
Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period 2022 – MADP
MADP is every year from January 1 to February 14.
Changing your Medicare Plan for 2022
Even if you are happy with your Medicare plan, it often is a good idea to shop around and compare plans to find one that is best suited for your needs in your area.
You can change your Medicare Advantage plan during Fall Open Enrollment (ACEP) from October 15 through December 15, 2021 (although the Biden administration may extend the deadline – some states already have).
However, if you wish to remove your Advantage plan altogether, you can disenroll from your plan and join Original Medicare during the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP).
Recent research reports show that many recipients with Part D or Medicare Advantage plans have a chance to lower their premium costs by comparing plans each year. As an example – a different Part D plan in the area where you live may cover the drugs you take with fewer restrictions and maybe even charge less for them.
Tip: Enroll early during any enrollment period to ensure your new coverage starts when it should.
Note: If you choose to disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan, federal law does not usually give you the right to buy a Medigap plan. The laws in your state might give you more rights. Medigap plans are supplemental policies that help pay for Original Medicare deductibles and coinsurances. You should check with your SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) to determine if and when you can enroll in a Medigap plan in the state where you live.
